Gingers in the UK are often the butt of ire and derision – mocked and bullied at school and given unfortunate nicknames that follow them for years – but now redheads have their own safe haven in the form of a new dating site just for them… and those who can’t get enough ginger in their diet.
Despite the tarnished reputation of gingernuts, there are some that are just nutty for fiery male and female redheads. Sometimes a brunette or a blond just doesn’t get the blood pumping and the home fires burning for those sort, and it has been a trial to find many gingers on a run-of-the mill dating website, but no longer: a new dating site specifically for redheads and their admirers has been launched.
Called Top Carrots, the website advertises itself as a resource for redheads in search of their fellow flame-haired brothers and sisters in arms, or for those who just simply fancy the taste of ginger. While redheads have previously been notoriously ‘hard to find,’ according to some aficionados of fiery tresses, gingers and ginger-lovers have flocked to the site, which already boasts more than 200,00 members, according to Sam Heakin, the IT manager that set up the site.
A redhead from Essex himself, Mr Heakin says he noticed a trend on singles websites and dating columns where people have been lamenting the lack of ginger-headed members. Knowing firsthand how hard it can be to find a new relationship, Mr Heakin was prompted to do his best to unite lonely ginger seekers and gingers by acting as a matchmaker.
With tongue planted firmly in cheek, the IT manager added that he has high hopes that famous redheads like Nicole Roberts, Geri Halliwell, Ed Sheeran, and even Prince Harry will soon be signing up for his new website as well.
