Well, here come the unwashed masses: one dating site that was supposedly for millionaires looking for love mistakenly let thousands of people who normally couldn’t afford the enrollment fees by charging them just £1 for the privilege.
Dating sites that charge their clientele exorbitant fees for the privilege of being listed are nothing new, but it’s rare that one of them is inundated by mistake by lonely singles by the thousands. This one, however, a new site that was launched just last week and was inspired by Made in Chelsea, the hit television show, will now have plenty of chaff to separate from the wheat after a special offer code that was meant for another website that was also controlled by the parent company of Made in Chelsea.
The dating site had already proven to be quite popular with the wealthy set in the week before the mistake, reportedly attracted by the chance to meet other wealthy folks in a safe, private, and secure environment. However, now that these one percenters are having to rub shoulders with the rest of us, the amount of anger and bitterness being voiced by the former elite at being exposed to ‘average’ Brits.
One dating site spokesperson commented that the site owners are aware of the accidental release of the special offer, acknowledging the frustration of its user base. However, there was no way to end the promotion early, according to the spokesperson, which means they will be honouring all memberships that are added.
